Navis nets 10x return on Indonesia’ Efficient English sale

Malaysian private equity firm Navis Capital Partners has made a ten times return by selling Indonesia’s Efficient English Services to publisher Pearson.

The $16.3m deal marks Navis’ fifth portfolio company sale in the past eight months, and the second involving a company with substantial Indonesian exposure following its exit of King’s Safetywear last December.

Efficient English is the operator of language education business Wall Street English, which was set up by the firm for $1.5m in 2007.

The company has grown to provide English-language training to more than 8,000 students in Indonesia.

Navis will continue to own the Wall Street Institute businesses in Thailand and Hong Kong following the sale.

Last week Navis sold Delhi-based fast food chain Nirulas Corner House, just weeks after becoming the sole owner of the company.

The Malaysia-based firm sold the business to A2Z Excursions for between $11m and $14.5m.
