Bowmark Capital has reportedly beaten Inflexion and Vitruvian Partners to buy Britain’s biggest fertility clinic, in a deal that is understood to have cost the UK mid-market private equity firm around £60m.
The firm bought Care Fertility from indebted private hospital operator General Healthcare, the Sunday Times reported over the weekend. The UK’s Daily Telegraph newspaper broke the news at the end of last month.
The sale could put the IVF industry back under the spotlight following accusations it was exploiting customers by charging them three times the cost of treatments, the Telegraph report added.
Bowmark and Inflexion are also believed to be among a handful of UK mid-market firms to have expressed an interest in buying education group Explore Learning, in a sale that could fetch around £50m.
