Blackstone Asia PE head Chae set for return to New York

new york3_lrgThe Asia head of alternative investment giant Blackstone’s private equity group is reportedly relocating to New York after three years in Hong Kong.

Michael Chae will continue in his role from the US according to Reuters, which cited an internal memo from Blackstone president Tony James.

It said Chae would also assume responsibility for global media and communications investments, and oversee the investment process for the firm’s tactical opportunities division.

Ed Huang and Yi Luo will lead Blackstone’s private equity investing from within Asia, it added, with Jan Nielsen and James Carnegie leading investment outside China.

Chae took over the Asia head role from Ben Jenkins in 2011, moving to Hong Kong from New York in the process.
