Ares Management has launched a new investment manager targeting institutional LPs and retail investors in Australia and New Zealand for its private equity, credit and real estate strategies.
The firm has teamed up with ASX-listed Challenger, through its subsidiary Fidante Partners, for the Ares Australia Management joint venture.
The firms hope AAM will be well positioned to benefit from the long-term trends and structural advantages driving increased demand for alternative investment products in the Australian market, including the significant and growing superannuation system in the country.
Ares partner David Sachs said, “As the Australian population continues to focus on growing and diversifying retirement assets in the country’s superannuation system, the corresponding increased demand for alternative investments with more stable income has created a tremendous opportunity for alternative asset managers.
“We are pleased to enter into this strategic joint venture with Fidante, which will utilize its significant distribution expertise to meet the growing demand for higher returning investment products.”
Ares had $142bn of assets under management across private equity, real estate and credit at the end of June.
Recent activity from Ares includes the €1.8bn final close for its oversubscribed fifth European real estate fund, representing its largest real estate private equity fundraise to date.
Fund V smashed both its €1.25bn initial target and €1.1bn raised for its predecessor fund, Ares European Real Estate Fund IV, in December 2014.
