S Scott Parel joins eight of his former WG&M colleagues at Sidley, two of whom are also members of its private equity practice.
Sidley management committee vice-chairman Larry Barden said, “We are extremely pleased to further expand our private equity and M&A practices with a lawyer of Scott’s calibre.
“He has built an impressive practice representing several leading private equity sponsors.
“His strengths complement well those of our existing team of lawyers focused on serving private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in sophisticated M&A and corporate matters.”
Parel joins Sidley’s Dallas office, which it opened in 1995 with a focus on intellectual property litigation.
It now has almost 60 lawyers including 16 associates and counsel from Weil who have accepted offers from Sidley.
Earlier this year Sidley Austin’s Asia Pacific arm named Gregory Salathé as a partner.
Salathé is a member of the firm’s M&A practice and will work from its Singapore office after a transition period in Tokyo, the firm said at the time.
