Business Growth Fund (BGF), the £2.5bn state-backed vehicle aimed at helping UK SMEs, has hired Alex Garfitt as investment manager for its South West and South Wales deal team.

The appointment is BGF’s third since December following the arrival of James Austin as investment director and Ned Dorbin as senior investment manager.

Prior to joining BGF Garfitt spent four years at KPMG Corporate Finance advising shareholders on acquisitions, disposals and strategic options.

He has worked on a number of domestic and cross-border transactions covering a broad range of sectors and has a particular interest in support services and food & drink businesses.

Garfitt said, “Businesses in the UK are crying out for equity funding to enable them to grow. BGF offers them this.

“I am excited to be joining a dynamic team who are clearly passionate about the role that they can play in supporting SMEs in this region.”

BGF has completed four deals nationwide since it launched less than a year ago – Benefex, Statesman Travel Group, Unruly and most recently GCI Com.
