Blackstone hires Lehman Brothers MD as Iberian senior advisor

Buyout giant Blackstone has hired Lehman Brothers managing director Claudio Boada as a senior advisor for its global private equity and real estate teams.

Madrid-based Boada will focus on advising Blackstone on deals in the Iberian region as well as developing new business initiatives.

The firm’s head of European private equity, Joseph Baratta, said, “Blackstone’s leading market position is in part due to its powerful international network, and we are building on that with Claudio’s appointment.

“We see substantial long term opportunities in Spain, to invest and create value for our limited partners, as demonstrated last year by Blackstone’s investment in Mivisa, the metal packaging manufacturer.

“Claudio is a highly experienced, well-connected professional who will bring a broad external perspective to the firm.”

Boada was a member of the European Investment Banking Committee at Lehman and also worked as non-executive chairman for the Iberian region, originating deals in investment banking, private banking and private equity.

He also served as chairman of Circulo de Empresarios for eight years and is currently chairman of Abantia TICSA, Atlas Capital, and Holcim Espana.

Boada is a member of the European advisory board of HSBC and senior advisor to HSBC in Spain and Portugal.

Chad Pike, Vice Chairman of Blackstone’s European business, said, “Given Spain’s need to recapitalize its banking sector, we believe that Claudio will be instrumental in establishing joint ventures and transactions between Blackstone and Spanish banks to bring in much needed expertise and capital into the country.”
