Private equity firms circle Dutch telecoms company Royal KPN’s Belgian mobile sale

Private equity firms Bain Capital, CVC Capital Partners, Apax Partners and Providence Equity Partners are all reportedly considering bids for the Belgian mobile phone arm of Dutch telecoms group Royal KPN, which could reach as much as €1.8bn.

According to Reuters, citing sources familiar with the situation, Royal KPN’s BASE division is undergoing a “comprehensive review”. Other interested parties include French entrepreneur Xavier Nel, founder and majority shareholder of internet company Iliad trading under the Free brand.

In January, Apax acquired Orange Switzerland from France Telecom for €1.6bn. The firm beat buy-out houses EQT and Providence to the post for the company.
