Physic aims to cook up perfect recipe through $6m Yummly funding

Physic Ventures has led a $6m Series A financing round in recipe search engine

The firm joined existing investors including Unilever Corporate Ventures, Harrison Metal Capital, Intel Capital and several angel investors in the funding round.

Andy Donner from Physic and Andy Porteous of Unilever will joing Yummly’s board of directors as part of the deal.

Yummly said it planned to use the cash to expand its team, scale its marketing and add new features and functionality to the site.

Donner said, “Innovative solutions that help people cook and eat healthy, flavorful meals are core to Physic Ventures’ mission of investing in keeping people healthy.

“We believe that Yummly has the opportunity to assist both experienced cooks and newcomers in the kitchen by providing a comprehensive digital platform encompassing meal planning, procurement, preparation and participation.”

The site attempts to trawl recipes from across the Internet and match them with the tastes of its users.

Yummly CEO and co-founder David Feller said, “In less than two years, Yummly is now attracting more than four million unique visitors each month.

“I am thrilled at our progress in such a short time – end user response has already far exceeded our wildest expectations.”
