Andreessen Horowitz leads $15m Firespotter funding round

Venture firm Andreessen Horowitz has led a $15m financing round for social media and communications company Firespotter Labs.

It was joined in the Series B round by existing investor Google Ventures.

Sling Media co-founder and former CEO Blake Krikorian will join the board as part of the investment.

Firespotter CEO, chairman and co-founder Craig Walker said, “Andreessen Horowitz has a wealth of knowledge and an impressive track record in advising industry-leading start-ups such as Skype, GitHub, Box, and Facebook.

“We are thrilled that Blake, one of the tech industry’s most savvy executives, will join our board and help direct the course of telephony products such as UberConference.”

UberConference puts a visual interface on traditional audio conference calls, while the company has also developed food industry apps Nosh and Noshlist and the social rating app Jotly.

Firespotter said it would use the financing to expand its engineering team and develop its telephony-based product line.

Earlier this month US venture firm Andreessen Horowitz invested an “eye popping” $100m in US software company Github, according to general partner Peter Levine.
