Technology-focussed private equity firm Silver Lake Partners has announced the final close of its second fund with $3.6bn of commitments. The fund was originally targeting $4bn but is nevertheless the largest fund ever raised exclusively for investment in the technology arena.
Silver Lake’s first fund closed on $2.3bn in 1999. Investors included Bill Gates of Microsoft, Larry Ellison of Oracle and Michael Dell of Dell Computers.
Silver Lake’s portfolio companies include Ameritrade, Business Objects, Flextronics, Gartner Group, MCI and Seagate Technology. The firm has also recently signed an agreement to acquire UGS PLM Solutions from EDS.
