European clean energy-focused investor Climate Change Capital Private Equity (CPE) has led an €8m investment into French wastewater company Orege. Luxemburg-based cleantech private equity business Oraxys contributed €2m, with CPE providing the rest of the investment.
Orege has developed a patented treatment technology for use on complex effluents and sludge from the oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals and chemical sectors. It says the process is cleaner than traditional alternatives and is more cost effective.
Alex Betts, partner at CPE said, “Orege has developed truly unique breakthrough wastewater treatment technologies in terms of performance, physical footprint, cost and environmental impact for treating highly complex industrial effluents and de-polluting the most toxic sludge. We are looking forward to supporting Pascal and his team’s expansion plans.”
CPE is a €200m European private equity fund that invests expansion capital in clean power, clean transport, energy efficiency, waste recovery and water. It is backed by institutional investors including Alpinvest, Robeco and Universities Superannuation Scheme. Orège represents CPE’s first investment in France and in the water sector. It recently invested in Austrian heat pump sepcialist Neura and last month purchased a 50 per cent stake in a UK wind farm for £61.3m.
