26 Feb 2013

IM000842.JPGPrivate equity firm RRJ Capital has reportedly topped up its investment in Cheniere Energy by pouring a further $300m into the Texas-based natural gas producer.

Cheniere has raised a total of $372m in the latest round of financing, which was also backed by private equity firm Blackstone Group and Singapore’s state backed hedge fund Seatown Holdings according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited a source with knowledge of the deal.

In May last year RRJ and Temasek – the Singapore investment company which owns Seatown – jointly invested $468m in Cheniere.

RRJ is focused on private equity investments in China and South-East Asia. It closed its first fund at $2.3bn back in March 2011.

Earlier this month it was reported that RRJ raised the second-largest Asia-based private equity fund despite falling short of its original $5bn target.
