HSBC appoints new private equity head

London-headquartered banking giant HSBC has appointed Simon Jennings, formerly of UBS, as managing director and new head of private equity within the group’s alternative investments division.

Jennings joins the HSBC Alternative Investments (HAIL) private equity team from UBS Wealth Management, where he co-founded and ran the private equity business between 2004 and 2011. This business provided private clients with access to 28 private equity offerings with client commitments and assets under management of around $6.5bn.

Jennings has over 22 years of private equity investment experience covering fund selection, due diligence, direct company investing and co-investing.

HSBC Alternative Investments CEO Chris Allen said, “Simon’s appointment is a significant hire and clearly demonstrates our focus and determination to grow and develop the private Equity offering within HAIL for our clients. Simon brings a wealth of investment experience, a proven and successful track record and a reputation for delivering excellence in client service, all of which will help drive our business forward over the coming months and years.”

HSBC’s alternative investments division comprises private equity, hedge fund and real estate offerings. Over $2bn has been committed through HAIL’s private equity division by HSBC private banking clients since the first offering of a HSBC Group Fund in 2001.
