Los Angeles-based private equity firm Vance Street Capital has appointed Jason Burmer as managing director and head of business development, adding an executive with more than a decade of deal origination experience.

The move comes two months after Vance Street closed its fourth flagship fund on its $775m hard cap, significantly exceeding its initial $550m target and bringing total capital raised by the firm to more than $2bn.

Burmer joins from Edgewater Capital Partners, where he spent seven years leading the firm’s business development function across successive funds focused on specialty industrials and life sciences.

Prior to Edgewater, Burmer served as associate director at HIG Capital, where he originated investment opportunities across the industrials and business services sectors.

At Vance Street Burmer will lead the firm’s business development function, overseeing investment origination efforts and supporting its thesis-driven acquisition strategy across the industrial technology, medical, life sciences, aerospace and defence sectors.

The firm said the appointment reflected continued investment in how it sources opportunities and develops relationships with founders, management teams and intermediaries.

Brian Martin, managing partner at Vance Street, said, “Jason has spent more than a decade building relationships and origination platforms in the sectors where we invest.

“Adding a leader of his caliber reflects the depth of our commitment to the founders, management teams, and advisors we work with across our markets.”

Vance Street, which was founded in 2007 by former Carlyle executives Richard Crowell and Brian Martin, invests in founder-owned businesses, family-owned companies and corporate carve-outs providing highly engineered products and services.
