Germany’s Heal Capital pulls in €80m for digital healthcare investment

Healthcare focused venture firm Heal Capital has raised €80m for its debut fund, putting within arm’s reach of its €100m target just months after its launch.

Heal kicked off the fundraise in September 2019 with commitments from a number of German private health insurers.

The Berlin-based firm is focused on Series A investments in technology-based startups in the healthcare sector.

The fund will target companies operating in areas such as digital health applications, telemedicine, digital prevention and digitalization of care.

The firm was launched by the German Private Health Insurance Association and is being managed by a joint venture between digital health investors Heartbeat Labs and Flying Health.

The fund is expected to start deploying capital in the first quarter of this year.

Alongside the fundraise, Heal announced the appointment of former Creathor Ventures partner Christian Weiß as a partner and managing director.
