Vision Capital operating partner Johan Van de Steen heads to Strategic Value Partners

Johan Van de Steen, an operating partner since 2009 at London-based Vision Capital, has joined distressed investment firm Strategic Value Partners.

In his role at Vision, Van de Steen had responsibility for the performance of the firm’s global portfolio, and was a member of the investment and executive committees. Previously he was an operating partner at KKR from 2002 to 2009.

Van de Steen joins the London office and will lead SVP’s European operating team.

SVP was established in 2001 by Victor Khosla, a long-time investor in global distressed, first at Citibank, then Merrill Lynch, Cerberus, and Moore Strategic Value Partners. The firm invests across both hedge fund and private equity strategies, with offices in Greenwich, London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.

“We are delighted to have Johan join the firm,” said Khosla.  “We continuously look for people that can add to our extensive operating capabilities and Johan has the perfect credentials to lead our European operating team.  The operating team are an integral part of our investment approach and will play an even larger role as we continue to grow our business in Europe.”

In October 2013, AltAssets reported that the firm was looking to raise $1bn for its new fund. In the meantime, SVP is reportedly looking to sell plastic film maker Kloeckner Pentaplast to other private equity firms a year after Blackstone ceded control of the then debt-heavy business.
