UK’s Palatine Private Equity names Andy Lees as partner

UK private equity firm Palatine Private Equity has hired Andy Lees as a partner.

Lees joins from UK banking group Barclays where most recently he led the large corporate team across the North West of England. He has over 20 years’ experience in corporate finance, private equity and banking having previously held positions at Ernst & Young, Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private Equity (AMJPE) and Barclays Ventures.

Whilst at AMJPE, Lees worked on several transactions with the Palatine partners including the £15m MBO Plaxton Coaches, the £16m buy-in management buyout of aerospace engineering firm Brookhouse Holdings, and the £39m secondary MBO of UK retail property services provider Styles & Wood.

Palatine has completed two deals in 2013. The firm invested in Blackburn-based private medical insurance intermediary Chase Templeton and backed the management buyout of Playnation, the former amusement and leisure division of Inspired Gaming.

Palatine was originally known as Zeus Private Equity before rebranding in January 2011. The firm was formed in 2005 by Gary Tipper, Ed Fazakerley and Tony Dickin and closed its maiden fund in December 2007 on £100m.

Palatine completed its second exit in October 2012, delivering a three times return in just over three years via a secondary management buyout of global oil and gas recruitment specialist Air Energi Group.
