Top Tier Capital hires ex Union Venture Corp president Jeff Watts


job handshake hireSan Francisco-based venture capital fund of funds Top Tier Capital Partners has hired former Union Venture Corp president Jeff Watts as chief business development officer.

Watts will lead Top Tier’s investor client business activities in sales, marketing and customer service as well as taking a place on the firm’s investment team.

He was most recently employed as a managing partner for third party broker/dealer private placement firm Thomas Capital Group, and earlier founded Russell Investment Group’s private equity fund of funds group.

Watts was also formerly a senior investment officer at the Washington State Investment Board.

Thomas Capital founder and president Sajan Thomas said, “Jeff and I have been friends since 1995 and colleagues for nearly 12 years.

“I have valued Jeff’s insights and  perspective regarding our industry and I will miss his guidance, humor and style.

“We appreciate his years of service to TCG and wish him well with his new career and move to the Bay Area.

“He has joined a great organization in Top Tier.”

In June AltAssets revealed that Top Tier had raised more than $150m for its latest fund of funds.

Top Tier Venture Capital VI had received commitments of 156m towards its $200m target according to a document filed at the time with US securities regulators.

The money was raised from six LPs, two of which contributed more than $154m, a separate filing for a parallel fund showed. The first commitment was registered in May last year.
