TCW staffs up special situations funds group with hire of Mark Gertzof


Global asset management firm TCW Group has appointed Mark Gertzof as a managing director in the TCW direct lending group, where he will be involved in the origination, due diligence review, structuring and execution of new investments, and will contribute to the ongoing management of portfolio companies.

He will report to Rick Miller, group managing director and head of the TCW-DL group, which provides debt instruments for mid-market companies.

Prior to joining TCW, Gertzof co-founded a middle-market investment banking and credit advisory firm Monroe Credit Advisors. Prior to that, he was a managing director and team leader for Merrill Lynch Capital’s corporate finance leverage lending group. Gertzof started his career at Bank of Boston and spent 13 years at BankBoston/Fleet Capital in various positions focused on asset-based lending.

TCW-DL is a senior secured lender that provides debt capital to mid-market companies for leveraged buyouts, refinancings, acquisitions, general growth, liquidity and recapitalisations. The strategy targets mid-market companies with an emphasis on proprietary deal sourcing, attractive risk-adjusted returns and the preservation of capital. TCW-DL has raised more than $3.9bn of capital since its inception in 2000. The business was acquired by TCW in December, 2012, and is part of TCW’s alternative investment platform which is overseen by Jess Ravich, head of alternative products.
