Former TA Associates CEO Kevin Landry, the second person ever hired by the firm back in 1968, has died of cancer aged 69.
A message on the firm’s website described Landry as a pioneer who helped define the growth of the private equity business, calling him an “inspired leader” and “loyal friend”.
Landry spent his entire professional career at TA, joining as an inexperienced 24-year-old MBA following stints as a cab driver and army helicopter repairman.
He became a TA general partner in 1972, managing partner in 1982, CEO upon the firm’s incorporation in 1984 and chairman in 2007.
He remained actively involved in the firm even after retiring as chairman in 2012, and was serving as a senior advisor at the time of his death.
