Canadian venture capital firm Relay Ventures has named former CEO of The Woodbridge Company Geoff Beattie its new chairman.
Woodbridge, where Beattie served as president for 15 years, is a privately held investment holding company for Canada’s Thomson family. He also serves on the boards of General Electric, Royal Bank of Canada and Maple Leaf Foods.
Relay is the only early stage venture fund in North America focused exclusively on mobile computing. It currently has more than 40 mobile startups and later stage companies in its portfolio.
Relay Ventures managing partner Kevin Talbot said, “To be a globally competitive Canadian-based venture capital firm requires a base of knowledge, expertise and contacts that will allow us to scale into a larger sustainable business.
“Geoff has a wealth of knowledge and experience in strategy, governance and business operations that will support our long-term plans and benefit each of our portfolio companies.”
Last week Relay and Sierra Ventures led a $10m Series A round for Tempo AI to fund the development of its personal productivity app.
