Zarzavatdjian will start his new job next month, taking over from current CEO , who will leave at the end of this year after 13 years with the firm.
Abouchalache, pictured, will launch his own firm, but he will continue to sit on the board of some of Quilvest’s portfolio companies and remain a member of its investment committee.
Zarzavatdjian joined 3i in 1987 and served as its global management director for growth capital and member of the firm’s management committee.
He also spent five years as country managing director in France and launched 3i’s business in the Benelux region.
Quilvest invests in mid-market businesses and fund of funds, making both director and co-investment deals.
Last year the firm raised $1.3bn towards its private equity investment strategy, beating its $500m target. This included three new mandates from two global sovereign wealth fund and one pension fund.
