Phoenix Equity makes four promotions amid record dealmaking year so far


UK private equity firm Phoenix Equity Partners has made four promotions following a record number of deals done since January.

New partner James Squires joined in 2013 and has led the firm’s financial services investments. He was involved in deals for Mobius Life, Redington and Key Retirement Group, and is investment director on the boards of Mobius Life and Redington.


James Chiang, Richard Hill and Victoria Wain have all been promoted to investment directors.

Chiang has worked in departments including business and technology services and financial services since he joined Phoenix in 2017. He took part in the investments in Rayner Surgical, Nexus and Universally Speaking.

Hill also joined the firm in 2017, He focuses on various sectors including business and technology services, media and information and healthcare. He took part in the Capital Economics, Nineteen and 1000heads deals.

Wain has spent three years at Phoenix working in healthcare and consumer and leisure sectors.

Phoenix Equity made some successful exits in the recent months. The firm bagged a 4.3x return selling UK eyecare specialist Rayner to CVC after trebling EBITDA and a better than 5x return selling Sygnature Discovery to Rothschild PE arm last month.
