ORIX Capital Partners has hired former HIG Capital and Safanad exec Craig Kahler as a managing director.
Kahler brings 16 years of mid-market private equity investing experience to the firm, having most recently led the New York-based private equity team of Safanad, a global principal investment firm he joined in 2014.
He was previously a portfolio manager with BlueMountain Capital Management and Principal at HIG.
ORIX said Kahler’s new role would see him responsible for building the mid-market private equity business, designing and executing strategies that leverage the firm’s capabilities and competitive advantages, overseeing the New York-based investment team’s activities, and maintaining and developing client relationships.
He will also serve on the OCP investment committee, playing a key role in investment strategy and assessing performance.
ORIX president and senior managing director Chris Suan said, “Craig’s background and investing experience will not only strengthen the ORIX Capital Partners team but will also help drive our asset management growth plans.
“He will play a vital role as we continue to collaborate with our partners, build our portfolio of middle-market companies and execute the growth plans we established in 2016.”
ORIX, which was founded three years ago, had raised more than $450m for its debut private equity fund by March this year, according to a filing it submitted to the US securities regulator.
The firm is the mid-market PE subsidiary of ORIX Corp USA, a $64bn asset manager working across investment management, real estate, lending and fixed income.
