Chicago-based venture capital firm New World Ventures has boosted its team by appointing experienced executives Carter Cast and Dave Habiger as partners.
Cast, pictured, and Habiger will focus on expanding the firm’s investments in e-commerce and new media.
New World also named co-founder of Google’s Chicago office Kevin Willer strategic advisor.
Cast previously served as CEO of Walmart.com, currently the third largest e-commerce site in the US. Cast began his career at PepsiCo, where he launched Tostitos salsas and dips and also held executive positions at Electronic Arts.
Habiger is an advisor to New World’s latest investment Simple.TV. He has also served as CEO of Sonic Solutions and NDS, which were acquired by Rovi Corporation and Cisco Systems respectively.
New World Ventures founder J.B. Pritzker said, “Carter, Dave and Kevin are incredibly successful executives who have launched and helped build some of the world’s most successful digital enterprises.
“These leaders are invaluable resources for both our investment team and our portfolio companies.”
Late last year the firm made the largest single investment in its 15-year history by injecting $50m into modular data centre provider IO.
