Venture capital giant New Enterprise Associates has promoted healthcare specialist Ali Behbahani to partner following six years with the firm.
Behbahani’s investment focus at NEA spans the medical device and biopharmaceutical sectors, and has played a key role in deals including Hyperion Therapeutics, Bridgepoint Medical and Acadia Pharmaceuticals.
NEA managing director Peter Barris said, “We’re delighted to recognize the many contributions Ali has made to NEA’s healthcare practice with this promotion.
“He has brought incredible value to the firm through his deep knowledge of the healthcare industry, and he has consistently exhibited strong leadership and investment judgment.”
Behbahani was previously a consultant in business development at The Medicines Company, a speciality pharmaceutical company developing acute care cardiovascular products.
He was also formerly a venture associate at Morgan Stanley Venture Partners and a healthcare investment banking analyst at Lehman Brothers.
Apnex said it planned to use the funding to support its ongoing clinical study for the effectiveness of its Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation System.
