Menlo Ventures brings in ex-Bessemer exec Spencer to boost marketing capability

US early stage investment veteran Menlo Ventures has hired former Bessemer Venture Partners exec Tiffany Spencer as vice president of marketing.

The firm said Spencer will oversee the firm’s marketing and communications and serve as a resource for Menlo’s portfolio companies as a member of its Fuel Team.

That includes providing strategic counsel to startups and lending support around significant milestones including new funding, product launches, and IPOs.

Spencer previously spent five years as Bessemer’s vice president of marketing and communications.

Their first internal marketing hire, she built out their marketing department, served as a strategic resource to portfolio companies and raised the profile of the firm.

Shawn Carolan, a partner at Menlo, said, “Tiffany is an excellent addition to the Menlo Ventures team.

“She stood out among hundreds of applicants for her deep experience.  She’s a strategic marketer who has launched start-ups, designed programs to drive demand, and engineered global product launches. She’ll be a great partner for our portfolio companies.”

Menlo, which boasts investments including Uber, Roku and 3Par, raised $450m for the final close of its fourteenth early-stage fund in 2016.

It is also currently investing a $250m special opportunity fund.
