Lloyd’s Banking Group’s private equity arm LDC has bolstered its operations by hiring industry veteran Richard Whitwell as investment director for its Birmingham, UK office.
Whitwell, pictured, joined the corporate finance team at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1994 after six years working as a chartered accountant at fellow professional services firm Ernst & Young.
He spent two years at PwC advising on private equity transactions before taking up roles at Aberdeen Murray Johnstone and Gresham Private Equity.
He also initiated, led and invested in the £21m MBO of C6 Solutions backed by Dunedin Private Equity.
Most recently Whitwell worked as finance director for rural accommodation provider Forest Holidays, and worked with the LDC Midlands team when it bought the business in September last year.
LDC regional managing director Martin Draper said, “Richard has considerable private equity experience, developed both as an investor and through operational roles within institutionally backed businesses and his recruitment is further testament of our commitment to a regionally based approach.
“His skill set will complement LDC’s existing team of eleven investment professionals operating across the Midlands region, as we continue to drive deal flow and secure opportunities to back excellent management teams in the UK SME sector.”
Last October LDC added to its southern team by hiring Alastair Weinel from Minority Capital Partners, a month after appointing John Garner to head its Yorkshire and North East operations following the departure of John Swarbrick.
Swarbrick has since joined the £2.5bn state-backed Business Growth Fund as its head of portfolio.
