KKR Capstone adds Matthew Chang as China managing director

Global private equity firm KKR’s operational management arm KKR Capstone has added Matthew Chang as managing director in China, to lead engagement with the firm’s portfolio companies in the region.

Chang joins KKR Capstone from Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Shanghai, where he was global senior partner leading the firm’s Asian operations and restructuring practices.

KKR Capstone is an operational team that works in partnership with KKR’s private equity investment professionals and portfolio company management teams to help create improvements to generate growth, increase efficiency, and enhance capital allocations. It also leads the implementation of the firm’s global green portfolio programme and other sustainability initiatives.

“We are thrilled to add a professional of Matthew’s caliber to our team. His broad range of experience and proven track record of enhancing business performance in China was a rare combination to find. Matthew’s entrepreneurial underpinning gives him great appreciation for the challenges faced by the entrepreneurs we often partner with in China, while his corporate and consulting experience arms him with an extensive toolkit for helping improve operations across a diverse range of sectors and industries,” said Scott Bookmyer, head of KKR Capstone Asia.

Prior to joining KKR Capstone, Chang was the practice leader of Roland Berger Strategy Consulting’s operational restructuring and operations team, and he was the leader for the firm’s Asia Pacific healthcare practice in Greater China.

He has held senior management positions at AlixPartners, where he was China managing director, Diageo, where he was Asia strategy director, and McKinsey & Company.

KKR Capstone Asia Pacific recently made recent senior appointments in India, with the joining of Akhil Puri in August 2012 as director, and Japan, with Sakae Suzuki joining as a director in March 2013.
