Growth equity investor General Atlantic (GA) has appointed former NYSE Euronext chairman Jan-Michiel Hessels as a special advisor in Europe.
Hessels will work closely with GA’s global investment team to identify new investment opportunities as well as provide strategic support for its portfolio companies, the firm said in a statement.
In addition to his 13-year tenure at NYSE Euronext, Hessels has also served as a director of Heineken, Royal Philips Electronics, SC Johnson Europlant, Fortis and the Amsterdam Exchange.
General Atlantic CEO Bill Ford said, “Jan-Michiel brings a breadth of expertise across a broad set of industries and has distinguished himself as a strategic advisor and board director to many important global businesses over his highly successful career.
“He will play a valuable role advising our European investment team and our portfolio companies globally.”
GA, which currently has $20bn under management, invests between $1bn and $2bn per year in growth companies.
Its investees include Santander Asset Management, Hyperion Insurance Group, XP Investimentos and FNZ.
Last month General Atlantic made three promotions across its New York and Mumbai offices.
