CPPIB chief strategist Raymond resigns

raymondSenior vice president and chief investment strategist of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) Donald Raymond is stepping down after 13 years with the fund.

Raymond, who joined CPPIB in 2001 and assumed his present role in April 2010, will resign at the end of March to join hedge fund manager Alignvest Management Corporation, where he will have a “leadership role.”

CPPIB said that the search for a replacement is well underway.

CPPIB president and CEO Mark Wiseman said, “Don is a true thought leader both in Canada and internationally in the field of asset management.

“His intellect is well known and he has been an important component in the evolution of CPPIB from start-up to global investment organization.

“I am grateful to Don for his partnership, and his many contributions to CPPIB and the investment industry, and wish him the very best in his next venture.”

In December CPPIB agreed to by a 115,000 farmland portfolio from Assiniboia Farmland for C$128m.
