Carlyle veteran Cohen moves to Black Diamond as head of private equity


Black Diamond Capital Management has named veteran Carlyle managing director Rodney Cohen as its head of private equity.

Cohen has spent the last decade with Carlyle, most recently as co-head of its Equity Opportunity Funds I and II.

He also served on the investment committees of Carlyle Global Partners, Carlyle Power Partners, and Carlyle Energy Mezzanine Fund I and II.

Prior to Carlyle he spent four years with Pegasus Capital Advisors, a mid-market investment firm with about $2bn of assets under management.

Cohen will have responsibility for managing Black Diamond’s $4bn portfolio of private equity funds, consisting of the BDCM Opportunity Funds II, III, IV, and V.

Black Diamond managing principal Stephen Deckoff said, “have known Rodney for more than 40 years and we have been investors together over the past 20 years.

Black Diamond has about $9bn of assets under management across private equity, a non-control distressed fund, a hedge fund and CLO vehicles.
