Carlyle poaches Morgan Stanley executive Jacques Chappuis

chappuisBuyout giant The Carlyle Group has named Morgan Stanley executive Jacques Chappuis its managing director and head of its solutions business.

Chappuis will join the firm in May this year from Morgan Stanley, where he currently serves as president of Alternative Investments Partners (AIP), its fund of funds business with $29bn across hedge funds, private equity, real estate and multi-asset classes.

At Carlyle, Chappius will lead the consolidation of the firms’ existing products and creation of new products including customized managed accounts, fund-of-funds, portfolio advisory and risk management services

Carlyle says Chappius transformed AIP from a traditional fund of funds to an alternative investments solutions business that accounted for 80 per cent of asset growth.

He has also worked as head of alternative investments at both Morgan Stanley and Citigroup’s wealth management units.

David Rubenstein, co-CEO of Carlyle, said, “Jacques has an extraordinary track record of innovation in the development and delivery of products and services that meet and anticipate investor needs.

“We are delighted that he will bring his experience and energy to take our Solutions business to a new level of success.”
