Oron brings more than twenty years of experience as a tech investor and executive in Israel, and spent most of her career as a partner at Vertex Venture Capital.
She becomes a senior managing director at Blackstone, and will lead growth and tech investments for Blackstone Growth, the firm’s growth equity business, and assist with other investing efforts.
Blackstone struck a $4.5bn final close for its oversubscribed Blackstone Growth fund last month – making it the largest first-time growth equity private fundraise in history.
The firm said it believes its concentrated approach to portfolio construction, which focuses on a far more curated number of companies than what is typical of growth equity firms, will allow it to deliver more significant operational value to the individual companies in which it invests.
Investments made through the fund to date include Bumble, which recently completed an IPO, Oatly, ISN, GeoComply and Epidemic Sound.
Blackstone also revealed that Israel’s former ambassador the the UN, Dan Gillerman, will become chairman of Blackstone Israel.
Gillerman has worked as Blackstone’s senior advisor in Israel since 2013.
Blackstone co-founder and CEO Stephen Schwarzman said, “We are increasingly focused on investing in fast-growing sectors, such as technology, life sciences and the digital economy.
“Israel is one of the most promising markets in the world in these areas and Yifat is the perfect choice to scale our firm’s presence and investments there.”
Jon Korngold, global head of Blackstone Growth, added, “We are big believers in Israel, which is one of the most dynamic and innovative markets in the world.
“I’m delighted to welcome Yifat, an outstanding technology executive and leader, to help us bring the full power of the Blackstone platform and our resources to the country’s entrepreneurs.”
