Blackstone appoints advertising powerhouse Shelley Lazarus to board


Shelly Lazarus Ogilvy BlackstoneGlobal alternative assets manager Blackstone has hired Ogilvy & Mather’s veteran chairman emeritus Shelly Lazarus for its board of directors.

Lazarus joined international advertising, marketing and public relations business Ogilvy in 1971 and became its CEO in 1996 and chairman a year later.

Blackstone chairman and CEO Stephen Schwarzman said, “We could not be more pleased that Shelly has agreed to serve on Blackstone’s board.

“Her remarkable understanding of marketing and client management, her pioneering work in advertising, and her broad perspective on business and finance will be of great value to our organization.”

Lazarus currently serves on the board of General Electric, Merck & Co, the World Wildlife Fund, The Partnership for New York City and The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

The news comes hours after Blackstone Advisory Partners revealed it was to relocate senior managing director Sean Madnani to the firm’s office in Menlo Park. He will lead the firm’s technology M&A practice on the West Coast and in Asia.

Madnani joins Ivan Brockman, the senior managing director of Blackstone Advisory Partners who founded the Menlo Park office, and will continue to lead the firm’s software, systems, and internet advisory practices.
