Baird Capital hires director, venture partner for healthcare venture team

Nicole Walker Baird CapitalThe private equity arm of wealth manager Robert W Baird has hired two new executives for its venture capital group.

Former Abbott Ventures director of venture investments Nicole Walker, pictured, joins Baird Capital as a director, while HealthMedia co-founder David Gregorka has been taken on a venture partner.

Both will focus on investment opportunities in the healthcare sector according to a statement from the firm.

Prior to Abbott Walker spent three years as a principal with ONSET Ventures, where she specialised in seed and early-stage medical technology, and ten years in operating roles at Guidant Corporation.

Baird Capital venture group partner Mike Liang said, “We are extremely excited to welcome Nicole and David to Baird Capital.

“They are very talented professionals who bring deep investing and operating experience as well as tremendous relationships in our core subsectors of interest. They are valuable additions to our investment efforts.”

Earlier this year Baird Capital promoted three senior executives and announced that its former analyst John DiGiovanni had rejoined the firm as a senior associate.

Vice presidents Gordon Liao and Yongshan Zhang were promoted to principals, while Alex Kessel was promoted to vice president from senior associate.

Both Liao and Zhang joined the US private equity fund in 2008. Liao is focused on the consumer products sectors, while Zhang works with the China Growth Equity fund.

Kessel joined Baird Capital in 2011 and works with the US Private Equity fund.
