Accel Partners brings in ex-Battery Ventures general partner Brian O’Malley


Brian O'Malley Battery AccelVenture capital major Accel Partners has hired former Battery Ventures general partner Brian O’Malley as a partner.

O’Malley spent ten years at Battery investing in companies including Bazaarvoice, Skullcandy and TradeKing, and was most recently head of its seed and early-stage practices focusing on consumer internet, cloud services and software.

He said, “I feel privileged to join the team.

“The group at Accel has consistently invested in and helped build some of the most exciting and defining technology companies from the earliest stages, across multiple categories, ranging from consumer apps to enterprise infrastructure.

“Even with this success, I’ve been humbled by Accel’s drive to partner with and support the next generation of the world’s best entrepreneurs and am excited to help them continue to shape the future.”

Prior to Battery O’Malley spent several years as an entrepreneur, most recently at  Bowstreet, where he built some of the first web service-based API integrations.

He started his career as a web developer for Motorola Computer Group during his sophomore year of college.

In the summer  Accel revealed it had pumped $100m of capital from its existing funds into a second vehicle aimed at making big data investments.

Accel previously raised a $100m big data fund in 2011, and has recently been targeting analytics-focused companies, including Sumo Logic, RelateIQ and Causata.
