Kohlberg & Company’s seventh fund hits $1.6bn hard cap


dollar_money_bag_170sqMid-market private equity firm Kohlberg & Company has closed its seventh fund, which topped its initial target of $1.5bn and hit its hard cap of $1.6bn.

The Kohlberg Investors VII fund has received commitments from more than 50 LPs including pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies.

More than 20 per cent of the LPs are from outside the US, primarily in Europe and Asia.

Kohlberg managing partner Sam Frieder said, “We received strong investor demand for this fund, and are deeply gratified by the continued support from our existing limited partners and pleased to welcome the limited partners who have joined our investor group.

“Our success in raising Fund VII is continued validation of our investment philosophy and the strength and quality of our team over the last 25 years.”

Since its launch in 1987 Kohlberg has raised more than $5bn across seven funds.

The firm invests between $50m and $200m in companies with EBITDA of $20m to $100m. It currently has 19 portfolio companies worth a combined $7bn.
