Ex-Android CEO Andy Rubin has launched his second Playground Global incubator fundraise, this time targeting up to $500m.
The firm is yet to register any capital towards the vehicle with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, where the fund name and target were registered.
Rubin closed the debut Playground Global investment fund on $300m last year, with a focus on hardware, post-smartphone and tablet technology, and hardware analysis software.
Investments made to date include Owl Labs, Nervana Systems and Bodyport.
Rubin incubated Android while an entrepreneur in residence at Redpoint Ventures.
He joined Redpoint last year as a venture partner to focus on consumer mobile platform and open-source opportunities for the firm.
