Sony sells PC business to Japan Industrial Partners


Japanese flag poleSony Corporation has agreed to sell its personal computer business to private equity firm Japan Industrial Partners (JIP).

Sony’s PC business and related assets will be sold to a new company established by JIP with the deal expected to be completed by July 1 this year.

The new company will be based at the Nagano Technology Site, the hub of Sony’s current PC operations, the group said in a statement.

Earlier this week it was reported that Sony was in talks to sell the business including the Vaio brand to JIP.
