Sony in talks to sell computer business to Japan Industrial Partners


japanese home_sqSony is reportedly in talks to sell its personal-computer business to private equity firm Japan Industrial Partners.

The sale is part of a wider restructuring that Sony could announce as soon as tomorrow and could include job cuts, said Bloomberg, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

A memorandum of understanding for the deal which includes the Vaio brand could be released tomorrow, said the source.

Recent private equity deals in Japan include Asian asset management firm PAG’s $250m investment in theme park operator Universal Studios Japan.
