The backing comes just over a year after Investor Growth Capital led a $17m Series C equity round for the business supported by firms including Granite Ventures, Peterson Ventures and Rose Park Advisors.

Sequoia partner Mickey Arabelovic said, “Job market and workplace frustration is at an all-time high and organizations can no longer sustain the static, prolonged and impersonal processes associated with recruiting and engaging people.

“While most technology of the past decade has focused on automating processes, HireVue’s Talent Interaction Platform is a true breakthrough, putting people, their voices and experiences, back in the center of business.

“It’s a must-have in today’s environment and we’re excited to be part of the company’s vision to improve how work gets done and the way in which companies interact with talent.”

The company’s cloud-based platform makes job interviews available on-demand.

Qualified candidates can respond to interview questions at their own convenience from a computer, tablet or smartphone, and employers can then watch interview responses anytime, anywhere.

Since responses are captured digitally they can be objectively compared, rated and shared with other members of the hiring team.

Last week global growth investor Sequoia Capital led an $8.5m investment in a Series A round for US  “mission-orientated” grocery company Good Eggs.
