Phoenix Equity to pick up UK day nursery business Just Childcare

childcareMid-market UK buyout house Phoenix Equity Partners plans to help day nursery business Just Childcare expand through a first-time investment.

The firm has backed the business alongside founders David and Jacqueline Johnson, and previously worked with the former in its Phoenix 2001 Fund investment Acorn Care & Education.

Just Childcare has picked up six day nurseries since it was founded in 2004, and hopes to make more bolt-on purchases as well as new openings.

Phoenix managing partner James Thomas said, “David is an experienced and entrepreneurial CEO with whom we have successfully worked before and we are excited at the opportunity to back him and Jacqueline in this new venture.

“This is an attractive sector with clear opportunities to build a significant group and we are proud that as a leading private equity firm we can play a part in making a difference in such an important area of the economy.”

In the summer Phoenix exited media monitoring and analysis services provider Precise Media Holdings to FTSE 100 constituent WPP.
