Paragon buys Vion’s German convenience retail unit

german flag 2_sqPrivate equity firm Paragon Partners has agreed to buy Vion Food Group’s German convenience retail unit.

The Paragon-led consortium that bought the business also included entrepreneur Jürgen Abraham and managing director of Vion Norbert Barfuss.

The business, which has a turnover of €435m, includes seven production sites, 29 branches, nine fresh meat centres and three meat markets.

It also owns the Weimarer, Nocker, Artland, Vegetaria and Heiter – Ihr Rheingauer Metzger brands.

Paragon said, “The buyers are convinced that the full potential of the German Convenience Retail segment can be developed under the new owner and that all conditions have been fulfilled to enable the sustainable growth of the company in the German markets of convenience and sausage products.”

in March this year it was reported that Paragon was expecting to close its latest fund on €400m.
