NEA helps more than quadruple Nginx financing through $10m Series B round

software6_sqVenture capital firm New Enterprise Associates has helped more than quadruple outside funding for open source web software developer Nginx.

The business received $10m of new capital through the NEA-led Series B round, which also included Series A investors, Runa Capital and MSD Capital.

Nginx author and CTO Igor Sysoev said, “Almost every commercial website and web application in the world is experiencing the impact of managing traffic from mobile devices. In addition, many are also using APIs to integrate with both internal and external applications which amplifies the traffic burden.

“Nginx’s speed and efficient use of resources has established our technology as the default content delivery and acceleration tool for over 120 million sites around the world, and has made us the most popular web server for the top one thousand busiest websites.”

NEA general partners Peter Sonsini added, “Nginx is leading the internet’s shift towards high-performance cloud computing, rich media websites, and mobile devices.

“It has become the crucial platform for powering modern SaaS applications and websites at any scale.”

NEA completed one of the largest ever venture capital fundraises in July last year by closing its fourteenth vehicle on $2.6bn.

The fundraise outstripped the $2.3bn target NEA had set, and just pipped the $2.5bn raised for its twelfth fund and the $2.48bn collected in its thirteenth.
