Jafco, Gree Ventures-backed bento box delivery business gets $27.5m new funding

TBFA16Jafco Ventures-backed Star Festival, the company behind bento box delivery business, has picked up another $27.5m of funding from Japanese mail order office supply major Askul.

The deal will see Star use Askul’s logistics network to deliver its lunchboxes, while Star’s delivery cars will also be used to transport Askul’s office supply deliveries.

Jafco invested $10m in Star last August to expand Gochikuru’s service into new cities.

Launched in 2009, Gochikuru sells a variety of bento boxes via a network of partner vendors. To date, the company has partnered with 210 lunch box brands, serving more than 3.2 million customers.

Star previously raised JPY250m($2.45m) from Globis Capital Partners and Gree Ventures in August 2012.
