29 Oct 2012

Computer chip giant Intel’s corporate venture arm has led a $4m financing round for Moscow-based online marketplace Eruditor.

Intel Capital was joined by Runa Capital in the financing round, which the company said would be used to bolster its team and expand into new service lines.

Eruditor already offers online marketplace services to professionals and businesses in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan including the, and Vash– brands.

Intel Europe, Middle East and Africa general manager Christian Morales said, “Eruditor’s tutoring vertical unites over ninety thousand education professionals in Russia and CIS and helps students find the best match to address their educational needs, including through the online tutoring platform Tutorion.

“We are very pleased to be contributing to this goal by investing in Eruditor and improving the educational landscape in Russia and CIS.”

Earlier this year Intel Capital led a consortium of investors in a $38m funding round for Russian online retailer KupiVIP.

The computer chip giant’s venture arm was joined by Acton Capital Partners and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as existing shareholders Accel Partners and Balderton Capital.

KupiVIP has now raised a total of $124m from investors since its launch in 2008.
