Optimum currently operates 17 homes with 1,213 beds under the Avery brand. The company says the homes have a high level of occupancy.
Under graphite’s ownership, Optimum expanded its portfolio from just one trading home.
Graphite noted that it remains in the sector via its continuing investment in Willowbrook Healthcare, which operates 13 homes that also trade under the Avery brand.
Graphite senior partner Mark Hudson said, “The combination of development capital provided by Graphite and the vision and experience of the founders enabled Optimum to grow rapidly.
“We were pleased to contribute to this success, especially given the ongoing requirement for additional high quality care homes in the UK to meet the needs of the rapidly increasing elderly population.
“Graphite will continue to invest in the sector and retains its majority shareholding in Willowbrook Healthcare whose portfolio of homes is still maturing.”
Last autumn graphite sold its stake in TileCo Group through a management buyout to private equity peer Alcuin Capital Partners and exited technical recruitment group NES Global Talent to AEA Investors for £234m.
In October last year Graphite and three other mid-market firms launched a new network aimed at helping their portfolio companies to expand internationally.
