Google Ventures, NEW help Tamr raise $16m

data storage_lrgBig data startup Tamr has secured $16m in a funding round led by venture capital firms Google Ventures and New Enterprise Associates.

The company’s data curation platform enables businesses to connect and enrich all their data, including internal data sources and external public data sources, as well as feeds from the Internet of Things.

It said that during customer tests its platform was able to connect, curate and prepare enterprise data in days or weeks, instead of months or quarters.

NEA managing director Peter Barris said, “Curation is a key theme in NEA’s portfolio across a number of consumer-focused verticals, from commerce to content.

“We are thrilled to find in Tamr the right technology and the right team to bring data curation into the enterprise, where there is tremendous opportunity to bring new levels of business insight and velocity to organizations.”

In February Google Ventures co-led a $25.5m financing round for data security business Ionic Security alongside Jafco.
